Teachers and support staff on Streap in 2006

Streap has been developed as an on-line programme by Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen and Cànan. Funding for the development has been provided by Scottish Executive. Streap is an adaptation of an earlier face-to-face course, written by Christina Walker from the School of Education at the University Of Aberdeen and Duncan MacQuarrie , HMIe.

Course development and project management has been led by Alison Dix, Head of Lifelong Learning at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, with the support of members of the administrative team.

Christina Walker, lecturer in Gaelic medium education at the University of Aberdeen has overseen the writing of the on-line materials, and acted as Advisor to the Project Manager. Anne Thirkell, Teaching fellow at the University, has also been involved as an academic tutor.

Materials for Course 1B, relating to the language of the classroom, have been contributed by Flossie Macdonald (Portree Primary School); Murdo Beaton (Portree High School); Julie MacNeil (Hillpark Secondary); Norman Macarthur (Dingwall Academy); Dougie Neally (Portree High School); and Iain Gordon MacDonald (Shawbost High School). Some of these teachers will provide mentoring support for course participants.

The on-line development has been managed by staff at Cànan, with support from their Managing Director, Donella Beaton, who has also been a member of the Steering Group.

The Steering Group comprises: Alison Dix (Chair); Christina Walker; Lachie Dick (Head of Academic Development at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig); D. J. MacLeod as representative of Highland Council; Murdo MacIver/Cathie Johnston for N. Lanarkshire Council; Joan Mackinnon from the Western Isles Council; Donella Beaton from Cànan and Duncan MacQuarrie, HMIe.

Janet MacDonald will be the language tutor for Course 1A. She is an experienced teacher, and has also worked for several years as a distance tutor on the 'Cùrsa Inntrigidh'(Access to Gaelic) supported distance-learning course at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig).
